Chronifer Special KL material
is Manufactured in Rod, Bar and coil
AISI 316L Stainless Steel
Material Properties
Type ~316L is an improved Corrosion
resistant Chrome-Nickel steel alloy with high content of Molybdenum. It is
a free machining grade with controlled sulfur content, used specially for watch
making parts in middle and high quality watches, but also for other industries.
Corrosion resistance
Due to its superior Corrosion
resistance, it has been used in handling many of the chemicals used by chemical
process industries. It is more resistant to pitting Corrosion than typical
18-8 alloys. For optimum Corrosion resistance, surfaces must be free of
scale and foreign particles. Parts should be passivated.
Availability
Bars: Cold drawn, ground and
polished. Standard length of bars 3m. Surface roughness N6, in
tolerance ISO h7 for bars and fg8 for coils.
Heat Treatment
For high corrosion resistance and low
magnetism, there may be an annealing procedure necessary. This annealing
is only useful after a strong cold working which raised the mechanical
resistance
Annealing: Heat to 1010-1120
ºC (1850-2050ºF and water quench)
Hardening: Cannot be hardened
by heat treatment hardens only by cold working
Stock Range
0.90-14mm in bars and 0.90-5mm in
coils
Mechanical properties
Tensile strength: at delivery form
750-1000 N/mm2
Cutting Rate
30-50m/min (approx value depending on
the lubrication oil, the cutting tools, the form parts)
